Healthy Reminders

Healthy Reminders for Pirate Pups

Jacie Bailey, Hannah Cole Primary School Health Aide

Here are a few reminders regarding school policy/guidelines on health concerns.

INJURY/ILLNESS:

Although we stress the importance of good attendance, illness/injury will arise from time to time.

The Boonville R-1 School District follows specific guidelines to protect against the risk of disease exposure to other students. If a student becomes ill or has an injury, a teacher will send them to the health office for assessment. If the school nurse deems it necessary for a student to be picked up, parents/guardians will be notified, and the student will need to be picked up as soon as possible. For this reason, it is crucial that families must maintain current contact information and telephone numbers in the Parent Portal.

Your child should not be in school if they have the following:

  •  Fever of 100 or above
  •  Vomiting
  •  Diarrhea
  •  Rash with Fever

Any untreated infectious disease such as impetigo, pink eye, scabies, strep throat, etc. (If in doubt, contact the health office.)

Your child should be symptom/fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION:

Please do not send medications (OTC, cough drops, cold remedies, etc.) to school for your child to take on their own. If a student takes prescription medication during school hours, a parent should complete a medication administration form Health Office. Prescription medication must be in a labeled medication container from a pharmacy or a health care provider with a current date, student’s name, drug name, dosage, time to be given, and route to be given. A parent/guardian must bring in and pick up the medication. The Health Aide will dispense OTC medications at the health office’s discretion and the parent’s permission.

RECESS/PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

A parent’s written excuse for non-participation in recess or PE will be honored only for two days. If a child must be excused for more than two days, a doctor’s note will be required.

Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns.
